Centre François Baclesse

A public service with a legally private management

The Act of Government of October 1st 1945 signed by General de Gaulle, formed the constitution for the development of the French Cancer Centres. Under the Code of Public Health (art L 312), these Centres are independent non-profit making hospitals providing the service to public. They have all the legal rights of publicly owned institutions and are able to be in receipt of donations and legacies which are not subject to tax.

The board of directors is chaired by the ‘Prefect’, who is the regional representative of the government. The Director chairs the Technical Committee which brings together the physicians and the scientists of the Centre. Their role is to plan the medical, technical and research developments of the Institute. The General Secretary, whose background is in law and economics, helps the Director in an administrative capacity.
