Department mission
The radiotherapy department treats using X-rays, which enables cancerous cells to be progressively destroyed. Healthy cells are also affected, but their resistance and capacity for recovery means they repair themselves between each session. This is why the prescribed dose is administered over several sessions. Their number is adapted based on each patient’s specific case. Each treatment is personalised.
Treatment by radiotherapy comprises several phases and involves different professionals at the centre (radiation oncologists, medical interns, medical physicists, dosimetrists, medical radiation technicians, nursing auxiliaries, paediatric coordinator, healthcare executive, dietician, medical secretaries, biomedical technicians, hospital housekeepers).
Healthcare offer and expertise
The radiotherapy department’s activity includes radiation treatment for adults and children. Treatment modalities include:
- External radiotherapy
- Proton therapy
- Brachytherapy
The department boasts one of the most comprehensive treatment machine offers in Europe.

Focus on… the radiotherapy children’s area
The radiotherapy department currently treats around thirty children and adolescents, aged 1 to 18 years, per year. These ‘mini patients’ are all treated under general anaesthesia. Willing to care for these children in the best possible conditions, the radiotherapy department team created a specific waiting area in 2017 thanks to generous donations. The area includes a beautiful 4m x 2m x 1m aquarium, games and furniture adapted to suit children.
