The Centre François Baclesse aims to integrate the patient voice ever more fully within its institution. It is taking a further step forward by recruiting a patient partner.

A commitment to innovative co-construction

Advances in medicine and the acceleration of medical research in oncology have brought major breakthroughs that benefit all patients. These advances have given rise to a great deal of expertise and a degree of technicality that can sometimes seem far removed from the day-to-day lives of patients. The patient has always been at the heart of care at the Centre François Baclesse, and today our ambition is to go even further by creating a real partnership.

What is a partner patient or expert patient?

The expert patient is a person with a chronic illness who, over the years of living with the disease, has developed a detailed knowledge of his or her illness on a daily basis. This is what is known as "lay" expertise, a non-scientific experience developed during the course of living with the disease.

Caregivers may know all there is to know about disease management, but patients know what it's like to live with the disease. The Centre Baclesse wishes to integrate this knowledge to enrich its own and improve care.

The patient-partner is both a player in his or her own health and a resource, not only for his or her peers, but also for healthcare professionals.

Making healthcare democracy more than just an idea

The Centre Baclesse is convinced that recruiting a patient partner is a way of improving its practices.
By integrating an expert patient, the Centre intends to offer patients and the institution new interactions:

  • Identifying a resource person to help understand the care pathway
  • Informing working groups from the user's point of view
  • Complementing the knowledge of professionals

What's the difference with the users' commission?

The Users' Commission includes members of associations appointed by the Agence Régionale de Santé, who represent users of a healthcare facility. Users' representatives from associations are not patients of the facility.

The Users' Commission deals with patient rights, respect for dignity, information and consent. It can be contacted directly by users.
