During FÊNO—the Festival of Norman Excellence—teams from the François Baclesse Center will be present in the Health Hub, located in the Village of Knowledge and Innovation.

For three days, doctors, researchers, and healthcare professionals from Baclesse will meet with the public to discuss their professions, their work, and the innovations that are helping to advance cancer care.

Artificial intelligence, personalized medicine, radiation therapy, proton therapy, research, and new treatments will be among the topics covered during these three days.:

Friday, October 16: Designing the Treatments of Tomorrow
+

Every cancer has its own characteristics. Through genomics, artificial intelligence, laboratory tumor analysis, new therapeutic compounds, and clinical trials, research teams are developing increasingly personalized medicine.

  • 10 a.m.–2 p.m. — Artificial Intelligence for Increasingly Personalized Treatments
How can artificial intelligence help tailor treatments more effectively to each patient? Teams from the AI Center will present their work in radiation therapy and on brain tumors, among other topics.
  • 2:00–4:00 p.m. — From the Lab to the Patient: Organoids in the Service of Personalized Medicine
How can models developed in the lab help us better understand cancers and personalize treatments? Learn about the 2D and 3D models—including organoids—used in cancer research.
  • 4:00–6:00 p.m. — Behind the Scenes in the Lab and the Operating Room
Discover the professions and technologies that contribute to patient care every day, from the lab to the operating room.
  • 6:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. — The Cancer Drugs of Tomorrow
How are treatments being developed to better manage the cancers of the future? Learn about the role of pharmacies in preparing and ensuring the safety of these treatments.
Saturday, October 17: Providing Care with Extreme Precision
+

Treating cancer with ever-greater precision is now at the heart of innovations in oncology. At the Baclesse Center, this pursuit of precision is evident at every stage of care: better characterizing the tumor through molecular biology, precisely targeting the tissues to be treated with proton therapy, delivering radiation directly to the cancer cells with vectorized internal radiation therapy, and performing complex surgical procedures with the assistance of robotic surgery. These complementary technologies and areas of expertise share a common goal: to offer treatment that is increasingly tailored to each type of cancer and each patient, while preserving healthy tissues and organs as much as possible.

  • 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. — Pediatric Radiation Therapy: Treating Children While Reassuring Them
What does radiation therapy care for a child look like? Learn about the techniques used to make treatment easier, including distraction methods and the creation of repositioning devices tailored to each child.
  • 10 a.m.–8 p.m. — Breathing and the Quality of Radiation Therapy Treatments
Can breathing affect the accuracy of a treatment? Discover the essential role patients play in the quality of their radiation therapy through an interactive presentation and a Kahoot quiz.
  • 2:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m. — What if we treated skin cancer with protons?
Protons are particles capable of stopping at a precise depth. Come adjust a beam yourself, treat a virtual tumor, and discover DeCuPro, a detector developed in Normandy to measure the actual dose received by the skin.
  • 2:00–4:00 p.m. — Vector-Guided Brachytherapy: Targeting Cancer Cells
Learn how vector-guided brachytherapy delivers radioactive treatment as close as possible to cancer cells.
  • 4:00–6:00 p.m. — Cryoablation: Treating a Tumor with Cold
How can a tumor be destroyed using cold? Learn about the principles of cryoablation and this technique used in interventional radiology.
Sunday, October 18: Better Understanding, Prevention, and Improving Quality of Life
+

The teams are developing solutions to better understand risk factors, reduce treatment side effects, and preserve patients’ quality of life, notably through Cancer & Cognition / CogBOOST and the ICELAND study.

  • 10 a.m.–12 p.m. — A research project led by paramedical professionals
. Discover how paramedical professionals also participate in health research and help advance healthcare practices.
  • 12:00 p.m.–2:00 p.m. — Chemotherapy: Hair Loss Isn’t Inevitable
Hair loss is a common side effect of certain chemotherapy treatments. Learn how the Paxman cooling cap works—it can help reduce hair loss during certain treatments.
  • 4:00–6:00 p.m. — Cogboost: Training Your Cognitive Abilities After Breast Cancer
After breast cancer, some women may experience cognitive difficulties. Discover Cogboost, a digital program offering cognitive training designed to support, in particular, a return to work.
  • 6:00–7:00 p.m. — Living Better After Gynecologic Cancer
Learn about the research being conducted to better address quality of life after gynecologic cancer and improve patient care.
