From September 13 to 15, 2024, Bagnoles-de-l'Orne was buzzing with solidarity during the "Septembre Turquoise" weekend, dedicated to raising awareness about gynecological cancers. This event, driven by the incredible energy of Armelle Lipka, herself affected by ovarian cancer, brought together more than 500 participants for conferences, a solidarity evening, and a large march, with a single goal: to raise awareness about gynecological cancers, which are still too little known to the general public.

Exceptional mobilization

The highlight of the weekend was undoubtedly the solidarity walk on Sunday, September 15, which brought together around 400 people in the streets of Bagnoles-de-l'Orne. Organized with the support of the local club "Bagnoles Oxygène," this 2 km (children), 5 km, or 9 km walk, preceded by riders from the La Tour equestrian center, raised awareness among participants in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. " It was wonderful! People were happy and very touched by this initiative," said Armelle Lipka emotionally. On this occasion, Professor Rouzier, Director General of Baclesse, recalled the scientific advances, which are still insufficient but nevertheless promising.

For this second edition, participation far exceeded expectations, attracting 100 more participants than the previous year. This success is also due to the many events organized in advance, such as the conference given by Laure Guéroult-Accolas, Executive Director of the association "Patients en Réseau" (Patients Network), who reiterated the importance of breaking the taboos surrounding gynecological cancers.

A weekend of generosity

On Saturday evening, a charity event was held at the Spa du Béryl hotel, where the band Les Epicurians gave a rousing concert. Thanks to the donations collected over the three days, the funds will be divided equally between the Patients en Réseau association and the Baclesse Center to finance ovarian cancer research teams. This initiative is a testament to the personal commitment of Ms. Lipka, who, despite her illness, continues to fight to raise public awareness of this cause that is so dear to her.

Turquoise September: A little-known cause

Turquoise September, although less well known than Pink October, which highlights breast cancer, is a valuable initiative to raise awareness of gynecological cancers (cancers of the ovary, uterus, cervix, endometrium, vagina, and vulva). "It is essential to break the silence surrounding these diseases and raise awareness about prevention and screening,"Armelle Lipka emphasized with her characteristic determination. Diagnosed in 2021, she has devoted herself body and soul to this cause, becoming a true driving force for mobilization.

See you in 2025 for a new edition

Buoyed by the success of its second edition, the Septembre Turquoise weekend in Bagnoles-de-l'Orne has established itself as an unmissable event for raising awareness, providing information and supporting research. Participants, whether walkers, volunteers or donors, have all contributed to this worthy cause, and it's certain that the momentum of solidarity won't stop there.

Many thanks to all participants and partners for making this weekend an unforgettable moment of hope.
