From September 13 to 15, 2024, Bagnoles-de-l'Orne vibrated to the rhythm of solidarity during the "Septembre Turquoise" weekend, dedicated to raising awareness of gynecological cancers. This event, driven by the incredible energy of Mrs Armelle Lipka, herself affected by ovarian cancer, brought together over 500 participants for conferences, a solidarity evening and a long walk, with a single objective: to lift the veil on gynecological cancers, which are still too little known by the general public.
Exceptional mobilization
The highlight of the weekend was undoubtedly the solidarity walk on Sunday September 15, which brought together around 400 people in the streets of Bagnoles-de-l'Orne. Orchestrated with the support of the local "Bagnoles Oxygène" club, this 2km (children), 5km or 9km walk, preceded by riders from the Centre Equestre de la Tour, raised participants' awareness in a friendly, caring atmosphere. " It was magnificent! People were happy and very touched by this initiative," said an emotional Armelle Lipka. Prof. Rouzier, General Manager of Baclesse, took the opportunity to remind the audience of the scientific advances that have been made, although still insufficient, but which are a beacon of hope.

For this second edition, mobilization far exceeded expectations, attracting 100 more participants than the previous year. This success was also due to the many events organized beforehand, such as the conference given by Laure Guéroult-Accolas, Managing Director of the "Patients en Réseau" association, who reminded us of the importance of breaking the taboos surrounding gynaecological cancers.
A weekend of generosity

On Saturday evening, an evening of solidarity was organized at the Spa du Béryl hotel, where the group Les Epicurians gave an emotional concert. Thanks to the donations collected over the three days, the funds will be shared equally between the "Patients en Réseau" association and the Centre Baclesse to finance the ovarian cancer research teams. This action is a testament to the personal commitment of Mrs Lipka, who, despite her illness, never ceases to fight to raise public awareness of this cause which is so dear to her.
Turquoise September: A little-known cause
Although less well-known than Pink October, which focuses on breast cancer, Septembre Turquoise is a valuable initiative to raise awareness of gynecological cancers (cancers of the ovary, uterus, cervix, endometrium, vagina and vulva). "It's essential to break the silence around these diseases, and raise awareness of prevention and screening," stressed Armelle Lipka, with characteristic determination. Diagnosed in 2021, she has committed herself body and soul to this cause, becoming a real driving force behind mobilization.
See you in 2025 for a new edition
Buoyed by the success of its second edition, the Septembre Turquoise weekend in Bagnoles-de-l'Orne has established itself as an unmissable event for raising awareness, providing information and supporting research. Participants, whether walkers, volunteers or donors, have all contributed to this worthy cause, and it's certain that the momentum of solidarity won't stop there.
Many thanks to all participants and partners for making this weekend an unforgettable moment of hope.
