Dr Carmen-Mihaela FLORESCU, radiation oncologist, passed away on April 7, 2022.
She joined the Centre François Baclesse in 2002, after completing her medical and specialty studies at the University of Cluj in Romania. She has spent her entire career at Baclesse, first as an intern, then as an assistant and specialist physician at the Centre de Lutte Contre le Cancer (CLCC), starting in 2009. Her areas of specialization, in which she is totally committed to serving her patients, mainly concern tumors of the head and neck, thorax and digestive tract. However, she also takes every opportunity to explore the more fundamental aspects of oncology through numerous research protocols, including the Protocoles Hospitaliers de Recherche Clinique (PHRC), some under the aegis of GORTEC (Groupe d'Oncologie Radiothérapie Tête et Cou), and theses and dissertations conducted under her guidance by her young colleagues. Her taste for innovation naturally leads her to test areas she considers promising: concomitant radio-chemotherapy, PET (Positron Emission Tomography) targeting, intensity modulation and, most recently, proton therapy.
Her sudden death has shaken all our teams, many of whom had worked with her for many years. Until the last few weeks, she left us with the image of a practitioner totally committed to her mission of care and proud of her profession, with a demand for excellence in the care of her patients.
We'll also remember the other Carmen: a woman with a look full of benevolence, receptive, open to others and whose radiant figure immediately drew sympathy. Carmen was also emotion, pure emotion, reflecting boundless generosity. And so she will remain forever in our hearts.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
