On Wednesday May 22, the Lions Club Caen Côte de Nacre presented a cheque for €3,000 to Baclesse, in support of work on circulating miRNAs by the Biologie et Thérapies Innovantes des Cancers Localement Agressifs( BioTICLA ) team.

BioTICLA's work on circulating miRNAs

This donation, presented by Hugues EMONOT, President of the Lions Club Caen Côte de Nacre, to Pr Roman ROUZIER, General Manager of the Centre Baclesse, will enable the acquisition of innovative equipment for the BioTICLA team. Mégane VERNON-COTENTIN, Research Engineer, and Hermeline DELEPOUVE, Communications and Fundraising Manager, presented the team's work to members of the Caen Côte de Nacre Lions Club. They will be looking for circulating miRNAs that could predict response to an innovative treatment, in order to guide the clinician's therapeutic decision in a perspective of personalized medicine for ovarian cancers.

Circulating miRNAs are disseminated and found in the blood whenever a tumor is present in the body. These biomarkers are particularly interesting, since they can be accessed by a simple blood test, and can provide information on the nature of the cancer, tumor progression or response to treatment. Although these circulating biomarkers can provide a great deal of useful information for the patient's clinical history, the difficulty lies in both detecting them and determining their significance.

This research work requires the acquisition of a quantitative PCR device with the ability to work in 384-well microplates, and the coupling of this equipment to a robot to automate these experiments, enabling us to meet our high-throughput needs within the allotted timeframe. This equipment, costing around €90,000, will be financed by public generosity.

A fine example of solidarity

The Lions Club Caen Côte de Nacre is a service club with around 40 members. The club carries out social and charitable projects in the fields of health, youth and the environment. It plays an active role in the Tulips Against Cancer operation in Bayeux, selling tulips at markets in Caen. The donation from the Lions Club Caen Côte de Nacre to the Centre Baclesse is a fine example of solidarity. It shows that, thanks to the commitment of volunteers, it is possible to advance research and give hope to patients.

Hugues EMONOT emphasized : "We are proud to support the François Baclesse Center in its research into ovarian cancer.

Professor Roman ROUZIER, Director General of the Baclesse Center, expressed his gratitude to the Caen Côte de Nacre Lions Club for its support and reiterated the importance of donors in our ability to fight cancer: "This donation is invaluable to our research center. It will enable us to acquire innovative equipment to advance cancer research and improve patient care. "
