Interdisciplinary Research Unit for Cancer Prevention and Treatment

Contact
The team
- Director: Pr Guy LAUNOY (Caen University Hospital)
- Sub-director: Laurent POULAIN (Centre François Baclesse)
In daily interaction with practitioners from the CHU and the François Baclesse Cancer Center, the ANTICIPE Unit involves some 100 people.
Research activity
The Anticipe Unit (Inserm U1086) develops fundamental and applied research aimed at proposing cancer prevention or treatment strategies best suited to individuals and their environment.
The research carried out by the Unité ANTICIPE is organized around two axes: "Cancers and Prevention" and "Biology and Innovative Therapies for Locally Aggressive Cancers (BioTICLA)". They draw on numerous research tools specifically developed within the team: general population cohort (AGRICAN), cancer registries, biological resource center on ovarian cancer, national methodological platform for the study of social inequalities in health, "Cancer and Cognition" platform, as well as several platforms of the ICORE university federative structure, including a high-throughput impedancemetry platform.
The multi-disciplinary work carried out by the Unit is aimed in particular at improving cancer prevention in agricultural settings, improving the organization of screening for colon-rectal and breast cancers, improving the prevention of cognitive disorders in cancer treatment, and improving the therapeutic management of women with treatment-resistant ovarian cancer. They also propose programs to reduce social and territorial inequalities in cancer prevention and treatment.
Cancers & Prevention" theme
The overall aim of this team is to improve knowledge of the individual and collective factors that determine the occurrence, management and prognosis of cancers. All these studies aim to improve cancer prevention and screening, as well as the care and quality of life of people who have had cancer.
The 'Cancers & Prevention' team is organized around 4 research themes:
- Occupational and environmental risk factors for cancer, with a particular focus on exposure to asbestos and pesticides
- Cancer screening, with a particular focus on colorectal, lung and prostate cancer
- Quality of life for cancer survivors with a focus on cognitive function
- Social inequalities in cancer risk and survival.
Location:
The "Cancers & Prevention" team is located in the main building of the Centre François Baclesse, 2nd floor west.
Biology and Innovative Therapies for Locally Aggressive Cancers" (BioTICLA) cluster
The BioTICLA team is made up of some thirty people from a variety of backgrounds (University, Centre François Baclesse, CHU, Inserm, CNRS) and professions (researchers, teacher-researchers, medical oncologists, nuclear physicians, pathologists, pharmacist-biologists, engineers, technicians, animal handlers, secretaries, etc.) who coordinate their efforts to work in a multi-disciplinary way around the Unit's scientific project: therapeutic innovation in the management of ovarian cancer.
The Unit is structured around two themes that revolve around the central issue of resistance to treatment:
- pharmacological modulation of apoptosis control pathways;
- studying the role of non-coding RNAs in response to treatment.
Location:
The BioTICLA Unit is located on the first floor and garden level of the external research building. The entrance to the building is opposite the FEH department of Caen University Hospital.
