Care and Expertise
The breast pathology surgical team works in collaboration with the oncology, radiology and radiotherapy teams to optimize and define the treatment strategy best suited to each patient.
During the surgical consultation, the type of procedure best suited to the patient is defined. The surgical procedure, integrated into the overall therapeutic strategy, is detailed using animated computer software to optimize understanding of the techniques employed.
Outpatient hospitalization (hospitalization during the day and return home the same evening) is preferred for the majority of patients, whenever the surgical procedure and the patient's condition allow it. In the case ofconventional hospitalization, the length of stay is short, adapted to the surgical procedure performed.
The development of locoregional anesthesia during breast surgery provides greater comfort and satisfactory pain relief postoperatively, enabling rapid recovery.
The Parcours Sein, organized by specialized nurses, offers follow-up care before, during and after surgery, according to patients' needs.
Since 2016, we have been performingbreast surgery combined with radiotherapy during the procedure, thanks to Intrabeam®. This technique is advantageous for certain types of breast cancer, enabling breast cancer treatment to be completed in a single day. This technique is not eligible for all types of cancer. Joint validation by the surgeon, radiologists, oncologists and radiotherapists is required before this technique can be used.
We have an outpatient department to monitor healing and manage post-operative complications. This service is provided by specialized nurses (Outpatient Department), and appointments are made on the patient's request.
We offer patients breast reconstruction techniques using internal breast prostheses, autologous muscle methods (dorsalis major flap) and/or fat grafting (lipomodelling), or free flaps (DIEP). Breast reconstruction is most often performed after treatment, but is increasingly offered at the same time as breast cancer surgery. The technique chosen, according to the surgeon's expertise, is adapted to the patient's wishes and morphology. Peri-operative follow-up is provided by our specialized nurses, in collaboration with the surgeon, enabling personalized patient care. The breast reconstruction process is a journey that sometimes requires several interventions, or aesthetic touch-ups. The final step in the process is the repair of the areola and nipple, either by skin flap or trompe l'oeil tattooing.
Breast reconstruction in the context of breast cancer is an integral part of the patient's overall care. This step enables us to respond to patients who wish to rebuild their body image. Information meetings are held regularly at ERI, bringing together patients, our nurses and a surgeon.
Service equipment
- Intrabeam ®: intraoperative radiotherapy for certain types of breast cancer
- Immediate and delayed reconstructive surgery:
- Sub-muscular or subcutaneous prosthesis technique
- Large Dorsal Flap Technique
- Lipomodelage, exclusively or as a complement to previous techniques
Research areas / Projects
- Evaluation of the population treated with INTRABEAM.
In collaboration with the radiotherapy and radiology departments, we are carrying out a study of patients treated with surgery and intraoperative radiotherapy, in order to investigate patient satisfaction and the long-term benefits of this innovative technique.
- Study of the comprehension of information given to patients during preoperative consultations, using educational information software (E-Consult®).
