Missions

When cancer is diagnosed in elderly people aged 75 and over, we can suggest the most appropriate treatment for the individual's specific needs.

  • oncogeriatric medical consultation,
  • an in-depth geriatric assessment on a half-day inpatient basis, if possible in the presence of a companion.

Indeed, all treatments can be considered for the elderly patient, but they must be adapted to the existence of frailty and to the overall state of health.

Screening for geriatric frailty (using the Oncodage G8 tool) can be carried out by the oncologist, surgeon or consultation nurse, to identify people requiring referral to an oncogeriatric assessment consultation.

This consultation enables us to assess :

  • autonomy,
  • associated diseases,
  • treatments and their interactions,
  • cognitive functions (memory impairment),
  • mood (anxiety, depression),
  • nutritional status,
  • pain,
  • the risk of falling,
  • social environment.
