The annual days of the TUTHYREF network (refractory thyroid tumors), accredited by the French National Cancer Institute (INCa), were held on January 13 and 14, 2023 in Caen, at the Mercure Caen Port de plaisance hotel.
They brought together nearlya hundred French-speaking thyroid cancer specialists, including nuclear medicine physicians, endocrinologists, surgeons, oncologists, anatomopathologists and researchers.
Numerous topics were addressed and discussed concerning the management of these tumors, which are rare (5% of cases) but more complicated than the majority of thyroid cancers. An update was given on current clinical trials, and several study projects were launched.
A grant of 20,000 euros was awarded to the ASTEROID project (ASsessment of TROP2 Expression in Refractory thyroid cancers and anaplastic thyrOID cancers) led by Dr Renaud Ciappuccini of the Centre François Baclesse (below, center).

Finally, an online conference for the general public gave an overview of the management of thyroid nodules and cancers, and answered patients' questions.
Participants appreciated the organization and the warm welcome they received. In 2024, the next event will take place in Lyon.
