What is an art library?
An artothèque is a structure for disseminating contemporary art, with a collection of original works of art, enriched each year and loaned to a wide public (individuals, schools, associations, companies, local authorities, etc.), in the same way as a library lends books and promotes reading.
It also supports artists through exhibitions, creative residencies, publications, etc. The artothèque is a cultural tool offering a privileged, direct encounter between a work of art and individuals, supported by a mediation service.
Why art in hospitals?
The hospital is an area of social diversity and effervescence. Opening up the hospital to culture means not only allowing artists to present their work, but also offering patients privileged modes of expression, guaranteed by the artistic and cultural quality of the actions undertaken.
Patients, relatives and staff - everyone, whatever their social circumstances, can now have access to art.
"As Frédéric Mitterand explained on the 10th anniversary of the "Culture à l'Hôpital" program, " this open window on aesthetics and emotion can help give rise to a desire for art and culture, and thus help to restore the energy and vitality needed to fight back.
