In 2021, Le Centre Baclesse responded to the call for projects launched by La Rochambelle to finance the writing and illustration of a booklet on post-breast surgery rehabilitation, accompanied by video demonstrations. The project was selected in first place by La Rochambelle's ethics committee. It has now been realized thanks to the support of the participants in the solidarity race.

Breast surgery

Following breast surgery, it's essential to mobilize your arm and shoulder, not only through appropriate physiotherapy sessions, but also independently at home.
This re-education, supervised by a physiotherapist at the Centre Baclesse and then in an office in town, must be completed at home. If it is carried out early on, it will enable you to regain optimal amplitude and mobility in your arm.
The booklet and videos help you learn the right movements and postures.

Exercise aids for use at home

The rehabilitation booklet is given to each patient by the nurses on duty BEFORE the breast surgery, so that they are aware of the exercises to be performed.

After surgery, we recommend that you perform the exercises 3 times a day, gently, but not to the point of pain.
We know that it's not easy to get moving after surgery, and pain can lead to a tendency to withdraw and immobility. But it's vital to get your arm moving. We also know that it can be hard to find the motivation to do rehabilitation exercises at home. To support patients in their rehabilitation, the Centre Baclesse has created a fun booklet of exercises to do at home, and video demonstrations by the Center's physiotherapists.

The booklet was written entirely by physiotherapists at the Baclesse Center and approved by the surgical team. The illustrations, created by an illustrator, are warm and welcoming, creating a pleasant atmosphere so that all patients can feel "at home."

Each illustrated exercise links to a demonstration video via a QR code. The rehabilitation exercises in the videos are performed by physical therapists and the adapted physical activity instructor at the Baclesse Center. The videos were filmed at the Baclesse Center, in an intimate living room setting, to make them feel very realistic, "just like at home."

The booklet and videos were produced thanks to the support of La Rochambelle, a women's race-walk in aid of the fight against cancer. The Centre Baclesse would like to thank all those who took part.
