The Salle Ekklesia in Tinchebray-Bocage was the venue for the Tinchebray-Condé Lions Club's check presentation ceremony at 7pm on Friday May 23. Graciously made available by the Town Hall, the hall brought together some forty people - Lions Club members, volunteers, researchers and the general public - to celebrate the success of the "Tulips against Cancer" initiative.
Rewarding collective commitment
After a word of welcome, Sébastien DEVANT, President of the Lions Club, recalled the association's motto, "We Serve", and presented the many fund-raising initiatives carried out throughout the year. Among these initiatives, the tulip planting and sales campaign was particularly successful: out of 63,000 bulbs planted, over 50,000 tulips were sold. The volunteers, mobilized from planting to sale, hailed the campaign a success, made possible by ideal weather conditions, enabling sales to be spread over five weeks, at markets, shopping centers and local craftsmen and merchants.
Donations for research
During the evening, donations were made to a number of associations, demonstrating the Lions Club's commitment to supporting a variety of local causes. The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of a cheque for 13,500 euros to the Centre Baclesse, to support research into circulating miRNAs as biomarkers of response to treatment in ovarian cancer. This donation will enable promising advances to be made in this field.
An evening of conviviality and exchange
The ceremony continued with Pr Christophe DENOYELLE presenting a slide show detailing the latest advances in the team's research work, with a particular focus this year on circulating miRNAs. Informal exchanges between Lions Club members, volunteers, researchers and the general public then set the pace for the end of the evening, testifying to the strength of social ties and collective commitment to the fight against cancer.
"This cheque presentation perfectly embodies the spirit of solidarity and commitment of the Lions Club, and gives new impetus to research in the service of patients", emphasized the President in his speech.
Thanks to everyone's mobilization, the "Tulips against Cancer" initiative confirms its driving role in supporting medical research and accompanying patients.
A HUGE THANK YOU!
