In November, the Baclesse Center is taking action to mark Tobacco-Free Month, a key initiative to raise awareness about the risks associated with smoking and to encourage people to cut back or quit. In oncology, smoking prevention and support for quitting play an important role: quitting smoking can, in particular, help improve tolerance of treatments and reduce certain complications.
Throughout the year, the Baclesse Center provides information and support to patients who wish to change their smoking habits. In November, three events are offered to patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals to learn more, talk with healthcare professionals, and discover the resources available.
A month to learn, share ideas, and take action
- November 12 – 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Smoking Cessation Workshop
📍 Room 167 · Garden Level (Academic Affairs Office)
Organized in partnership with the Espace Patients & Proches, this group workshop—led by a tobacco specialist and a nurse—will provide an opportunity to talk openly and receive advice on how to cut back on or quit smoking. Nicotine replacement therapies (patches, lozenges, and chewing gum) may also be offered to support your efforts. Open to all: drop by whenever you like, whether for a few minutes or longer.

- November 17 – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Cigarette Butt Hunt
📍 Center Lobby
This community initiative will combine health prevention with raising awareness about the environmental impact of smoking. Patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals will be able to participate in this collective, community-driven challenge. The goal is to highlight the pollution caused by tobacco waste by cleaning up the Center’s grounds, while raising awareness about the issues related to smoking and quitting. A single cigarette butt thrown on the ground can pollute up to 500 liters of water.

- November 19 – 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. – Interactive awareness booth
📍 Center Lobby
A tobacco specialist, a dietitian, and an addiction nurse will lead discussions and offer several activities: a quiz on cancer and its risk factors, a “question tree,” a virtual reality headset to explore how the lungs work, and carbon monoxide (CO) testing.

A year-round effort
At the Baclesse Center, smoking prevention and smoking cessation support are part of an ongoing effort. Tobacco-Free Month is an opportunity to remind people that they can get support at any time, regardless of their background or goals.
In addition, Novembre Perle raises awareness about lung cancer and its risk factors, including smoking, and helps remind people of the importance of prevention and screening.
For remote advice and support, you can also reach the national Tabac Info Service hotline at 39 89.
