Department tasks
Care
- Digestive oncology surgery: by laparotomy, laparoscopy, robot-assisted technique;
- Peritoneal surgery (primary peritoneal tumor and peritoneal carcinomatosis): HIPEC "hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy," PIPAC "pressurized intraperitoneal aerosol chemotherapy";
- Soft tissue and visceral sarcoma surgery;
- General surgery for patients undergoing oncology treatment.
The department provides routine and specialized medical and surgical care, with a surgical on-call service for all patients treated at the Center for the oncological pathologies in question. Surgical management is part of a comprehensive, collegial approach within a multidisciplinary consultation unit (all digestive oncology specialists, including gastroenterologists and medical oncologists, radiotherapists, radiologists, nuclear physicians, pathologists, etc.).
Prevention
Digestive management is part of an oncogeriatric prehabilitation approach (with the ATOSS service), improved rehabilitation after surgery (RAAC), early consultation after rectal surgery involving an ileostomy (STOMROB protocol, "stoma after robot-assisted or coelio-assisted surgery" with a half-day hospitalization for multidisciplinary consultation), etc.
The department is involved in public health, prevention and therapeutic patient education initiatives, as well as public information campaigns coordinated with the teaching and supportive care department.
Participation in commissions and groups: Pain Team and CLUD (Comité de Lutte contre la Douleur), Nutrition Team and CLAN (Comité de Liaison Alimentaire et Nutrition), CLIN (Comité de lutte contre les infections nosocomiales) and Feedback Group, Ethics Group, Quality Department, IT Department, Pharmacy and COMEDIMS (COmmission du Médicament et des Dispositifs Médicaux Stériles), etc.
Teaching
The Center's surgery and teaching departments, in partnership with the CHU, the Caen faculty and training institutes, play an active role in medical and paramedical training. It welcomes students (externs and interns) throughout the year.
In digestive surgery, one intern from the specialty is welcomed each semester.
