Every year, the Cabourg Lions Club sets itself apart through its involvement in the fight against cancer. Through various events and actions, its members raise funds which are shared between various associations and structures, including the Centre Baclesse.
Solidarity and generosity
This year, their mobilization took on a special dimension, as wild boars had ravaged the field on which the tulips were grown, and the departmental hunting federation took part in the donations. Thanks to this support, Mr Fabrice OLIVIER, president of the Cabourg Lions Club, presented Mélanie BRIAND, research engineer at the Centre Baclesse, with a donation of €10,000 (€2,000 from the hunters' federation, €4,000 from the Cabourg Lions Club for BioTICLA, €4,000 for medical research) to support the research projects carried out by the establishment's researchers and doctors.
During the presentation, Mrs. Anna MARGUERITE, past-president of the Lions Club, stressed the importance of volunteers, whose energy and commitment make the projects possible . The hunters' federation was also thanked for having "compensated" for the damage caused by wild boar to the tulip field, whose cultivation and harvest had also been affected by the weather conditions.
Another fine lesson in solidarity and generosity offered by all! Thank you all.
Projects financed through donations
The funds raised will be used in particular tofinance the consumables needed to set up and analyze the organoids. These organoids, miniaturized models of tumors, play a crucial role in the advancement of oncology research, enabling a better understanding of cancers, the testing of new treatments and the prediction of treatment response.
Following studies of ovarian, upper aerodigestive tract and breast cancers, oncologists approached the BioTICLA research team and the ORGAPRED platform with a new project concerning endometrial cancer. Clinical trials on the feasibility and study of organoids derived from endometrial tumors began in September 2024 with the PENDOR project.
Thanks to the commitment of the Cabourg Lions Club and its partners, significant advances can be made in the fight against these forms of cancer. The Centre François Baclesse would like to thank the Lions and their volunteers for their support, which is essential for advancing research and improving treatment for patients. The Cabourg Lions Club thus continues to work for a cause that affects many families, with the conviction that every action, no matter how small, can help make a difference.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
