Renovation of the entrance hall at the Centre Baclesse took over 18 months, from January 2021 to August 2022. The new space was inaugurated on September 22, 2022, in the presence of Thierry MOSIMANN, Prefect of Calvados and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Centre François Baclesse.
Our policy of modernizing the Centre
The modernization of the Centre François Baclesse lobby and the access corridor to the oncology day hospital are part of a wider project to modernize the Centre.
In accordance with its last 2 facility projects, the Centre has decided to devote part of its investment budget to modernizing its services, a strategy validated by its Board of Directors and by the Agence Régionale de Santé through the approval of its budgets.
As a result, major work has been carried out over the past 7 years:
- Modernization of the operating room
- The creation of a new boarding school
- Creation of a quiet room near the hall
- Refurbishment of the cafeteria
- The new outpatient surgery department
- The creation of a supportive care consultation platform
- Complete renovation of the medical wards on the 4th and 5th floors, as part of the O'ZEN program.
- Renovating the nuclear medicine department
- Complete restructuring of the radiology department
- Renovating the catering service
- Restructuring of the MRI department this year, to allow for the arrival of the second MRI unit, which has just taken on its first patients.
- Renovation of the radiotherapy department, which began at the end of 2021 and is still underway
Hall renovation made possible by generous donor
Faced with all this work, exceptional in its nature, which reflects the Centre's determination to offer patients quality reception conditions and staff an improvement in their working conditions, the Centre's entrance hall was something of an anomaly. Its dilapidated state soon became apparent, not only in contrast to the other renovated premises, but also to the Centre's objectives of quality and excellence.
During his lifetime, the donor had wished to finance a major project to benefit patients at the Centre Baclesse. In consultation with his parents, he chose to renovate the reception hall.
The scope of the project has been precisely defined:
- Entire entrance hall
- Floor repair
- Repainting
- Creation of waiting areas for patients and visitors
- Refurbishment of signage
- Lighting upgrade
- Digital signage installation
- Changing the reception desk
- Changing furniture
The guidelines given to the architect were as follows: " To transform the lobby into a true reception area in the image of the Centre, modern, functional, with a strong hotel connotation, chic but without ostentation ".
The Centre knew that the project would be a delicate one, as it would be carried out on an occupied site, in a strategic location for operations, at patient and visitor reception points, at the crossroads of patient, employee and logistics flows, and directly linked to the elevators. The project had to be carried out in fifteen or so phases to ensure continuity of operations at the Centre, while also meeting stringent requirements in terms of hospital hygiene and noise pollution. On the technical front, the difficulties were compounded by the simultaneous completion of the major project to replace the Centre's 6 elevator batteries, which began in January 2021 and is now nearing completion.
In terms of time management, the project took longer to complete than expected, in a context where we also had to factor in the impact of the health crisis, which disrupted company management, generating human resources constraints, delays and supply disruptions.
" Today, the most important thing is the result of this work: we are collectively very proud of the work carried out, and of the result, which corresponds entirely to the objectives set. The new hall reflects the Centre's image very well, and the quality of the new premises also reflects the respect we owe our patients and visitors, " explains Pr Marc-André MAHE, General Manager of the Centre François Baclesse.
The Centre François Baclesse thanks all those involved in the project and expresses its deep gratitude to the donor and his parents.
