The Baclesse Center was honored at the Roche Oncodays on March 6 and 7, 2026, when one of its oncologists, Dr. François CHERIFI, was awarded the Roche Innovation Award. This award recognizes an innovative study focused on the remote monitoring of patients undergoing systemic therapy, a key challenge in improving the care of cancer patients.
Remote patient monitoring is already in place at the Baclesse Center
Today, patient monitoring at the Baclesse Center relies on the Cureety platform, which is based on self-reported data provided by patients.
The award-winning study aims to enhance this digital monitoring by incorporating objective physiological data. This data will be collected using connected devices, including health watches developed by Withings.
Heart rate variability, a key indicator of health
The project focuses on heart rate variability (HRV), a recognized indicator of the functioning of the autonomic nervous system that reflects the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems. Unlike heart rate alone, HRV allows for a more detailed assessment of the patient’s overall condition.
The goal isto determine whether a decrease in heart rate variability may indicate clinical deterioration or the onset of toxicities associated with cancer treatments, particularly chemotherapy and monoclonal antibodies.
Toward earlier adaptation of cancer treatments
Ultimately, this monitoring could enable medical teams to make therapeutic adjustments earlier on, such as reducing the dose, temporarily interrupting treatment, or reassessing the treatment plan.
The goal is to improve patient safety and the personalization of cancer treatments.
A clinical trial is planned for late 2026
The study is expected to include between 65 and 70 patients undergoing chemotherapy or receiving systemic treatment.
These patients will be monitored for approximately one year, with the study scheduled to begin before the end of 2026.
The Roche Innovation Award recognizes clinical research at the Baclesse Center
With a prize of 2,000 euros and institutional support, the Roche Innovation Award recognizes this innovative clinical research initiative, which contributes to an increasingly personalized approach to oncology.
