From December 11, 2023, patients undergoing treatment at the Centre Baclesse will benefit from a new remote monitoring service. The Cureety remote monitoring medical device, specialized in oncology and reimbursed at 100% by the French health insurance system, will initially be offered to patients undergoing intravenous chemotherapy, and will then be gradually extended to all patients. The platform, which can be accessed from a smartphone, tablet or computer, willenhance continuity of care, thanks to a personalized, seamless relationship between patients and healthcare teams throughout the care pathway.

Eventually, this solution will enable all treatments to be tracked:

  • Follow-up of anti-tumor treatments, whatever the treatment (intravenous or oral chemotherapy, subcutaneous treatments, immunotherapy, etc.).
  • Radiotherapy
  • Hormone therapy

Dr. Audrey FAVEYRIAL, the physician in charge of the chemotherapy day hospital, who spearheaded the OPTIMA project, the previous patient monitoring system, sees the arrival of Cureety "as a more modern and comprehensive version that will offer patients undergoing treatment high-quality, personalized, and closer monitoring. This represents a real step forward in monitoring patients at home, offering them real-time monitoring of their health."

Being able to access an application also offers patients much greater freedom and autonomy, since questionnaires and content can be filled in at any time by the patient. Patients are no longer dependent on calls 48 hours before their treatment to discuss possible side effects and the preparation of their treatment before coming to hospital.

Day-to-day patient care

Thanks to this application, patients can play an active role in their own treatment. By means of questionnaires adapted to their treatment, patients benefit from :

  • Personalized remote monitoring by care teams. Patient responses to the questionnaire are analyzed by Cureety's scientifically proven clinical classification algorithm, generating alerts for care teams in the event of a deterioration in the patient's state of health.
  • The ability to send photos. As some treatments can affect the skin or nails, the caregiver can assess the patient's skin condition and avoid unnecessary travel or consultation.
  • A secure space to store and share medical documents.
  • Tailor-made advice on how to manage side effects.
  • Content (videos) andaccess to supportive care, such as sophrology, to help improve daily life.

All content shared on the application is validated by healthcare professionals, which makes patients feel more secure, and can help avoid anxiety-inducing searches on websites offering answers unsuited to their situation.

Enhanced support for cancer patients

Featuring an easy-to-use interface, it is designed to fit into the daily routine of any healthcare facility, whatever its size or organization. For care teams, the platform enables better coordination of healthcare professionals in patient follow-up. It also enables them to prioritize care for the most vulnerable patients. For the facility, this means rethinking its nursing support for patients, and being able to redistribute skills according to patients' needs at each stage of their care.

In concrete terms, the platform will make it possible to :

  • Strengthening the link between the facility and patients
  • Reassuring patients on a daily basis and reducing feelings of isolation
  • Facilitating and securing the arrival of patients in HDJ chemotherapy for the administration of their treatment

Real advantages for healthcare professionals

For healthcare teams, the platform helps streamline resources and prioritize care for the most vulnerable patients. According to Dr. Adeline MOREL, medical oncologist at the Baclesse Center, "Giving patients the opportunity to report adverse effects from their very first treatment allows for early identification and management of these effects. The aim is to avoid serious complications and limit emergency hospitalizations."

The outlook

A study called OPTIMACURE, scheduled for deployment in March 2024, will compare the benefits of this new monitoring method with the telephone monitoring system used for several years at the Center.

"It is very important to be able to scientifically substantiate the benefits of this digital shift. We are convinced of this, but we want to prove it," explains Professor Roman ROUZIER, Director General of the institution.

The positive results expected from this study will support the Center's choice of the Cureety solution, which has also been selected by OncoNormandie, Normand'e-santé (NeS) andOMéDIT Normandie, in collaboration withARS Normandie, to be interfaced as a priority with regional digital tools, following an evaluation of the various solutions tested in the region.
