On May 20, 2026, Professor Roman Rouzier, Executive Director of the Baclesse Center, received a donation of €17,500 from the Coutances Lions Club to support cancer research and improve patients’ comfort and well-being.
A club that has been a fixture in the community for over 50 years
Founded in 1971, the Coutances Lions Club carries out charitable initiatives in the heart of the Cotentin region. Its active members support several causes, but the club’s main initiative remains the “Tulips Against Cancer” campaign.
120,000 bulbs for 5,200 bouquets

In early November 2025, 120,000 tulip bulbs were planted in a field loaned by a farmer in the Couten region—the same number as in the 2024 campaign, a practice that will continue through 2027. Over several weeks, a team of 110 volunteers, supported by club members, took turns picking, washing, and arranging 5,200 bouquets of 18 tulips each. These bouquets were offered as part of four-delivery contracts to retailers and businesses in the Coutances region: 191 contracts were signed this year, while other bouquets were sold at local markets and at the Leclerc supermarket in Coutances. Two tents set up directly in the field welcomed the public throughout the campaign.
The four other Lions clubs in the area also played an important role, taking on 560 additional contracts.
The Baclesse Center would like to extend its warmest thanks to the Coutances Lions Club for its loyal and invaluable support, which makes a real difference for patients, their families, and cancer research.
