An expert in healthcare management and policy, he has been Chief of Staff at the Unicancer Federation since 2020. Working closely with Prof. Roman Rouzier, who took over as CEO on July 1, he will help implement the ambitious strategic plan drawn up for the next five years.
A specialist in the strategic, financial and social management of healthcare facilities
A graduate in Health Management and Policy from Sciences Po Paris, after studying at Paris-Dauphine University and Sciences Po Aix, Michaël Canovas joined Unicancer, the Federation of 18 Cancer Centers (CLCC), at the beginning of 2020, as Chief of Staff. A personality of dialogue and federator, he has contributed to strengthening Unicancer's institutional presence, supported strategic projects and promoted with great conviction the agile CLCC model, in a national context of healthcare system reform. A dual mission consisting of formulating concrete proposals to advance the fight against cancer and consolidate the humanist model of the CLCCs,
100% dedicated to oncology, of private status but exercising a triple mission of exclusive public service: care, research and teaching, at the cutting edge of innovation.
Michaël Canovas specializes in strategic management of healthcare establishments, and began his career at Gustave Roussy's medico-economic division in 2010. He then spent 5 years conducting financial, social and organizational audits in the healthcare sector, within consulting firms. On the strength of this diagnostic expertise, he continued his career as Financial Director, then Deputy Director of Hôpital Pierre Rouquès in Paris, better known as Maternité des Bluets, for 3 years, before joining Unicancer.
" I am delighted and honoured to have been appointed by Prof. Roman Rouzier, with whom I share fundamental values. I approach these duties with humility and determination. While the Centre Baclesse has many assets, the challenges are multiple and require full mobilization: anchoring our Center at the heart of territorial cooperation, supporting professionals in a context of severe tensions in terms of human resources, maintaining financial equilibrium, strengthening patient involvement in our organizations, amplifying our dynamic of medical-scientific excellence and, of course, constantly improving the quality of our care. Solidarity, humanism, a sense of community, but also agility and a sense of responsibility will guide our actions ", declared Michael Canovas at the General Meeting of staff on July 3.
For Pr Roman Rouzier, General Manager of the Centre François Baclesse, " Michael Canovas' financial and strategic expertise, as well as his human and managerial qualities, will be invaluable assets for our establishment, which has many challenges to meet in the Normandy region. We're counting on his experience and versatility to help federate professionals around our ambitious strategic plan ".
