From June 26 to 30, 2023, the Centre François Baclesse welcomed twenty-two doctoral students from Europe, Japan and New Zealand. They attended an intensive course, given by European experts (Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France, Sweden), on the fundamentals of understanding the effects on healthy tissue of light ion treatments, as proposed by hadrontherapy.

The course was organized by Prof. Siamak Haghdoost (Unicaen), Prof. Jacques Balosso (Centre François Baclesse) and Dr. Zacharenia Nikitaki (post-doctoral fellow, Normandy region) as part of the training activities included in the European PIANOFORTE program dedicated to improving knowledge in human radiation protection.
The week ended with a visit to the CYCLHAD center, whose laboratories will host the work of these future scientists interested in this field of research applied to cancer treatment.

The audience was enthusiastic, and the course was certainly a success. It will now be repeated every year, to gradually consolidate Caen's position in hadrontherapy research and training at European and world level.

This is the third international event in this field hosted by the Centre François Baclesse in support of the University of Caen and the ARCHADE association since 2019: ENLIGHT-2019, ERRS-2021 before the PTCOG World Congress in 2026. ARCHADE is building its network of scientific collaborations.
