Following approval by the Unicancer Federation's Board of Directors and Executive Committee, and an appointment by the French Minister of Health and Prevention, Professor Roman Rouzier took up his post as General Manager of the Centre François Baclesse on July 1, 2023. He succeeds Prof. Marc-André Mahé for a 5-year term.

An internationally recognized expert committed to tomorrow's oncology

Trained as a gynecological surgeon, Professor Rouzier began his career in Paris (at the CHI de Créteil). He then spent two years in the United States, at MD Anderson Cancer Center, the world's leading cancer hospital[1]. Specializing in breast and gynecological cancers, he was appointed University Professor and Hospital Practitioner in 2008, when he was practicing at the Tenon Hospital. In 2015, he became Deputy Director of the Institut Curie - Saint Cloud, where he coordinates the medical, scientific and architectural project, in addition to overall management of the site. At the same time, he resumed his management studies, graduating top of his class from the X - Ecole Polytechnique executive master's program in 2018. Author of 440 scientific publications, ranked n°4 French expert surgeon in gynecology and breast by Le Point in May 2023, Pr Rouzier is an internationally recognized expert.

A vision for Baclesse 2030

As the bearer of an ambitious strategic plan, Prof. Rouzier intends to amplify the establishment's drive for excellence and innovation, through its threefold mission of exclusive public service: care, research and teaching. From optimizing care pathways and developing scientific research, to revamping management and strengthening regional collaborations, there are numerous objectives to advance the fight against cancer and improve treatment.
Building on the momentum created as Scientific Director and Head of the Center's Department of Surgery, Prof. Rouzier intends to capitalize on the establishment's many assets: its volume of activity, the high qualifications of its staff, the excellence of its treatment and its major role in the healthcare offering. Roman Rouzier's strategic vision is based on 5P medicine (personalized, preventive, predictive, participative and evidence-based). He takes a holistic approach to care pathways, and intends to place Baclesse at the heart of regional cooperation, alongside all the players in the Lower Normandy cancer ecosystem: the university hospital, the general hospital centers and community medicine. This movement also intends to build on the synergies of the C3 (which the center forms with the CLCC Henri Becquerel in Rouen and Oscar Lambret in Lille).

A 6-PRONGED STRATEGIC PROJECT :

Demanding and innovative, the strategic project it will deploy is built around 6 axes:

  1. Ensuring that every patient benefits from excellent, personalized, highly reliable care, from prevention to post-cancer;
  2. Develop clinical and translational research, as well as teaching, through a stronger university base;
  3. Strengthen the Center's position in the region as part of an innovative medical project involving patients and all healthcare stakeholders;
  4. Develop governance to create a collective, efficient dynamic that promotes the attractiveness of careers at the Centre;
  5. Consolidate the company's financial position;
  6. Be true to the values of the Centre (humanism, excellence, innovation and solidarity) and of the Unicancer Group.

" I approach this new role with great humility and determination. Our collective challenges will be many. Territorial cooperation, quality and safety of care, excellence in research, participative management and rigorous financial management will be the cornerstones of our joint action on behalf of patients ", explained Prof. Rouzier to the center's professionals, gathered on Monday July 3 to launch this strong dynamic.

According to Prof. Jean-Yves Blay, Chairman of Unicancer: " Prof. Rouzier's experience and great energy will help to consolidate the excellence of the Centre François Baclesse, by stimulating a federative dynamic and continuing the work he initiated as Scientific Director. His unwavering commitment to patients and cancer research is at the heart of the Unicancer Group's strategic orientations .
