On April 5, 2024, in Bricquebec (50), Colette LEFER, president of the Vaincrabe association, presented a cheque for €13,000 to Dr Laurent POULAIN and Dr Jordane DIVOUX from the Centre Baclesse in Caen.
Donations for cancer research
Thanks to this €13,000 donation, an inverted stage microscope with camera (approx. €9,000) and an automated cell counter (approx. €4,000) will be purchased to support the cell culture and research activities that are the main focus of the team headed by Dr Laurent POULAIN.
On the evening of April 5, Dr Laurent POULAIN presented the research work carried out at the Centre Baclesse thanks to the support of the Vaincrabe association. He took the opportunity to point out that the 2022 donation had enabled the acquisition of a luminescence/florescence membrane detection device, which is mainly used to detect proteins. Thanks to this semi-quantitative method, it is possible to compare the expression of proteins in different situations (cells treated with a chemotherapy molecule versus untreated cells, sensitive cells versus treatment-resistant cells, etc.), to determine whether cell death occurs or, on the contrary, whether survival pathways are activated, etc.
This speech was also an opportunity to thank the association, emphasizing that generosity and solidarity enable significant advances to be made in the fight against cancer.
" Thanks to your donations, you work alongside us on a daily basis to keep hope alive. The ongoing advances and successes achieved in recent years bear witness to this, and are a great source of optimism for researchers and patients alike ," added Dr Laurent POULAIN.
20 years at Baclesse's side!
The Vaincrabe association was founded in 2005 by Anne-Marie SAID to support cancer research at the Centre Baclesse. It raises funds by organizing festive events (dinner dances, concerts, theatrical performances, etc.) and soliciting public generosity.
In June 2023, President Anne-Marie SAID was replaced by Colette LEFER. The new president, supported by a large number of volunteers, is continuing the fund-raising actions undertaken since 2005 in favor of the Baclesse Center and its patients.
Colette LEFER declares with emotion and pride "The whole of Bricquebec is committed to supporting our association and, beyond that, the research work of Dr POULAIN's teams. We all hope that this disease will one day be defeated.
In 20 years, the Vaincrabe association has donated €218,000 to the Centre Baclesse.
A huge thank you to the Vaincrabe association for its commitment to the Centre Baclesse!
