As part of an ambitious restructuring project involving the renewal of five of its gas pedals, the radiotherapy department welcomed its first HALCYON machine on June 13, 2022.

HALCYON special features

This is a new-generation gas pedal for intensity-modulated treatment, offering maximum patient comfort.

Its speed of execution and the quality of its repositioning imagery mean that radiotherapy sessions can be carried out in record time, making the treatment experience easier for the patient, whatever the treatment location.

This new technology is the perfect complement to our innovative fleet of gas pedals, and will enable us to respond more effectively to adaptive radiotherapy, which is more personalized throughout the treatment, depending on the patient's anatomical changes.

Commissioning scheduled for end of July 2022

Now that delivery of the Halcyon to one of the radiotherapy department's bunkers has been completed, the Center's Medical Physics team is working on its installation and commissioning. This is a key stage in the process, enabling us to check that the device is working properly and to ensure that it is used safely.

HALCYON commissioning tests by the Medical Physics team

On July 26 and 27, the HALCYON's group of reference manipulators will be trained in its use, and will be able to welcome four patients for treatment from July 28, 2022.
The number of patients treated on this new gas pedal will be progressive, reaching a final capacity of 50 treatments per day.

In March 2023, the Center will welcome its second HALCYON gas pedal, a "mirror" machine identical to the first. Having identical machines operating in parallel makes day-to-day work easier. It allows us to:

  • optimized patient distribution on the gas pedals,
  • more flexible management of periodic quality controls, guaranteeing better continuity of care.
