What is the "May by Bike" challenge?
The "Mai à vélo" challenge is a national event designed to encourage people to cycle throughout France. Local authorities, companies, associations and schools can register and take part in the ranking in their category: "Local authorities", "Employers", "Associations" or "Schools".
The aim? To cycle as many kilometers as possible throughout the month of May.
Some figures for the 2023 event at national level:

Baclesse well placed for its first participation
This year, the Centre François Baclesse took part in the challenge for the first time in the "Employers" category. In April, we invited all the Centre's employees to take up the challenge.
75 professionals from the Centre joined the "Centre François Baclesse" community and actively participated in the challenge. Together, they covered 12,990 km during the month of May.
With this score, the Centre Baclesse is positioned :
IN THE "EMPLOYERS" RANKING:
- 1st employer in Normandy (out of 61)
- 51st employer nationwide (out of 1,214) and 41st among employers with over 250 employees (out of 469)
IN THE "ALL CATEGORIES" RANKING BY GEOGRAPHICAL SECTOR :
- 1st in the urban community of Caen la mer (out of 32)

- 5th in Normandy (out of 101)

We're proud of the results of our first participation in this challenge, and would particularly like to congratulate the Centre's professionals who made it into our top 5 of participants who covered the most kilometers (pictured above):
- 1st: Pierre-Yves DESLANDES, IT department, with 1,002 km

We're already looking forward to the 2024 edition of this challenge, and hope to do even better!
Baclesse and his policy of promoting cycling
In 2015, the Centre François Baclesse signed a mobility plan with the Communauté d'agglomération Caen la mer to encourage employees to use environmentally-friendly modes of travel to get to work.
In this mobility plan, the Centre undertakes to implement actions to :
- Promote the use of public transport,
- Promote the use of bicycles,
- Move towards rational car use.
Since 2017, the Centre François Baclesse has already implemented:
- A "Forfait d'indemnité Kilométrique Vélo" (bicycle mileage allowance), which in 2020 will become the " Forfait mobilités durables" (sustainable mobility allowance). This involves the employer covering all or part of the transportation costs of employees commuting to and from work by bicycle or electrically-assisted bicycle. The Centre can also reimburse 50% of the cost of electrically-assisted bicycle rental passes as part of the transport allowance.
- Two covered bicycle shelters are available for staff use, as well as 2 bicycle parking areas. To ensure secure parking for employees' bicycles in the bike shelters, the Center provides secure locks, available on request. They also have access to the showers in the staff changing rooms.
- In September 2022, the Centre Baclesse joined the Objectif Employeur Pro-Vélo" programprogram, supported by the French federation of bicycle users (FUB), by signing the program's charter of commitment, thus formalizing its inclusion in the labeling process.
Employees cycling to the Centre Baclesse
In 2023, 83 employees were convinced by this mode of transport (i.e. 7.18% of the workforce).
This represents a +30% increase in velotaffers since 2019.
