COVID-19: a new vaccination campaign has begun

The COVID-19 virus continues to circulate, which is why the Direction Générale de la Santé (DGS) has launched a new vaccination booster campaign. The campaign began on Monday April 15, 2024, and will run until June 16, 2024, with the possibility of a one-month extension should the epidemic situation warrant it. This duration will enable eligible people to be protected during the summer period, notably during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and to be eligible again at the start of the fall campaign, while meeting the objective of campaign effectiveness.

Who is it for?

This campaign is aimed at people whose immune protection diminishes more rapidly over time. These are essentially :

  • People aged 80 or over.
  • Immunocompromised patients of all ages.
  • Residents of nursing homes and long-term care units, whatever their age.
  • And any person at very high risk , according to each individual medical situation and within the framework of a medical decision shared with the care team.

These people will be able to receive a dose of Covid-19 vaccine from 3 months after the last injection or infection
with SARS-CoV-2
.

Nevertheless anyone wishing to be vaccinated, even if they are not part of the target group, can receive an injection against COVID-19.

Since May 13, 2023, the vaccination obligation for healthcare and medico-social professionals has been suspended by decree. decree. However, vaccination of healthcare professionals remains strongly recommended.

Which vaccines will be used?

For this spring campaign, the recommended vaccines are those whose formulation has been adapted to the Omicron XBB 1.5 variant. These are :

  • Comirnaty® vaccine from Pfizer-BioNTech
  • Nuvaxovid® vaccine from Novavax

Vaccination is reimbursed at 100%.

You can go to a healthcare professional in town to have this vaccination:

  • General practitioner or specialist
  • Pharmacist
  • Private nurse
  • Midwife
