Maria Moreno will leave on Tuesday August 17, 2021 for the French West Indies to help local healthcare teams deal with the urgent outbreak of the corona virus.

"It was my children who told me on Sunday evening that there was a shortage of staff. On Monday morning, I called the Normandy Regional Health Agency to volunteer, and I'm flying out tomorrow," explains this surgical assistant from the François Baclesse Center.

The ARS indicates on its website that a total of 26 health professionals from Normandy (out of 240 nationwide) will be going to the West Indies to work for 15 days in West Indian health establishments. Two aircraft specially chartered for the occasion already took off on August 10.

"I wanted to do something different with my life, and it warms my heart to be able to help," says the energetic 52-year-old woman with intense emotion.

"I thank Baclesse for allowing me to leave," she concludes.

The Centre François Baclesse had already seconded staff during the first wave of the epidemic in March 2020 to reinforce teams at the Institut Curie in Paris.
