The "NPTS" symposium on hadrontherapy advances in Southern Hemisphere countries took place from October 30 to November 1, 2024, in the prestigious setting of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne.
The Centre Baclesse was one of the international guests, and Prof. Jean-Louis HABRAND was able to share the experience of his teams in proton therapy and pediatric oncology. To date, there is no modern particle radiotherapy facility in this part of the world. However, thanks to the commitment of Australian researchers, a strong momentum is building up, culminating in the construction of the first proton therapy center in Adelaide.
Mr. Virgile LETELLIER, a medical radiophysicist with the NHA group, also gave a much-awaited presentation on the progress of the C400 prototype (a compact cryogenic cyclotron for hadrontherapy) being built by the NHA (Normandy-Hadrontherapy) company in collaboration with regional players, including the Centre Baclesse.
