The Baclesse Center has just had itsComprehensive Cancer Centeraccreditation renewed bythe Organization of European Cancer Institutes (OECI) for a period of five years. It is thus one of the European centers recognized for their excellence in comprehensive cancer care.

A center of excellence committed to excellence and innovation

This distinction, reserved for institutions that provide a fully integrated continuum of care, research, and teaching, confirms the important role played by the Baclesse Center in the public hospital service and in the regional and national organization of cancer care. Only institutions with a wide range of medical and technical expertise, including clinical, fundamental, and translational research, are eligible for this accreditation.

This demanding process evaluatesa center's multidisciplinary and cross-functional approach. It covers a very broad field of action, ranging from management and strategic governance (steering, indicators, and activity reports) to external collaborations with regional, national, international, and academic partners, including the integration of care and research (clinical, translational, and fundamental). It also analyzes patient pathways (quality, treatment times, traceability, complication management, continuity of care and supportive care, etc.), studies healthcare democracy, evaluates quality and risk management, and finally assesses the development and maintenance of professional skills and the security of the information system and health data.

The audit report's conclusions praise a "mature" and "high-performing" model at the forefront of the fight against cancer.

Led by a delegation of seven cancer experts from six different countries, the mission began with a documentary analysis based on a self-assessment of the institution and supporting evidence. Beyond the declarative aspect, the mission included a two-day site visit, during which the auditors reviewed 85 processes, covering all the standards of the OECI reference framework in a qualitative and quantitative approach, with scores assigned for each area.

In its report, the OECI emphasizes that: "The François Baclesse Center is characterized by a mature and highly effective comprehensive cancer care model, supported by strong leadership, integrated governance, and a deeply rooted culture of multidisciplinary collaboration. " The auditors highlight major advances since their previous visit (in 2020), particularly in terms of scientific visibility. They also emphasize the fact that all of the Center's actions and activities are patient-centered and praise the strong integration of quality management. The OCEI notes a strengthened translational impact, supported by a strategy shared with the Center's hospital and academic partners and the strong coherence between research, teaching, and care. This impact makes the Center a regional and national reference in cancer innovation.

International recognition of the teams' excellence

This renewal of accreditation is the culmination of a continuous drive for quality improvement, which is part of the school's mission statement, and reflects the collective commitment of all teams.

Professor Roman ROUZIER, Director General of the Baclesse Center, states:

"I am delighted with this renewal of accreditation, which rewards the remarkable collective work, high standards, and rigor of all the teams at the Baclesse Center. Every day, our professionals work alongside patients to advance the fight against cancer and provide excellent care based on innovation and research. This international recognition confirms our key role in oncology in Normandy and beyond."
