Marion PERRÉARD, ENT clinical supervisor on the Caen plateau, defended her university thesis on February 28, 2025.

This research surgeon works within the BioTICLA axis of Inserm Unit U1086 ANTICIPE, and carried out her thesis work under the supervision of Laurent POULAIN, with the support of Louis-Bastien WEISWALD and the ORGAPRED platform.

His research focuses on squamous cell carcinomas of the upper aerodigestive tract (UADT).

They represent the 5th most common cancer in France, and their prognosis is dismal, with a 5-year survival rate for all stages combined of around 40%. The therapeutic strategy relies on multimodal management (surgery, radiotherapy, platinum-based chemotherapy), which is responsible for heavy toxicity for patients. Resistance to treatment is also a major problem. These factors underline the importance of implementing personalized medicine to increase treatment efficacy while reducing the risk of toxicity from overall management.

During her 4-year project, Marion PERRÉARD set out to establish tumoroid models derived from tumors of the upper aerodigestive tract. She verified their relevance by comparing their histological and molecular characteristics with the original tumors. She exposed them to conventional therapies to study their predictive potential, and to innovative therapies to explore new therapeutic possibilities.

Marion PERRÉARD's work has consolidated the arguments in favor ofusing VADS tumoroids as a relevant cancer model for preclinical research or personalized medicine.

Congratulations on your work!
