Your generosity is a powerful weapon in the fight against cancer. You play an essential role in our fight against this disease, because thanks to your support, we can continue to accelerate cancer research and offer patients hope for a better future.
Donations in 2023

In 2023, you were more than 7,000 donors (associations, individuals, companies...) to support our research and care projects which aim to :
- Promoting screening
- Finding new treatments
- Improving quality of life during and after cancer
6 projects financed thanks to donations
1. Towards personalized medicine: the "TRIPLEX" clinical trial

In 2023, we launched theTRIPLEX clinical trial clinical trial with tumor organoids from triple-negative breast cancer patients.
This trial aims to test different treatments on organoids to determine the most effective, predict treatment response and implement precision medicine protocols.
One year later, 37 patients have been included in this research protocol.
The initial results are promising, and our hopes lie in the development of personalized medicine for each patient.
Your donations have helped finance 80% of the TRIPLEX clinical trial!
2. FrOG: Better care for so-called "hereditary" cancers
In November 2023, the FrOG (French OncoGenetics Database) project received the Unicancer Innovation Award in the "digital/data at the service of patients" category.
The diagnosis of genetic predispositions to cancers such as breast, ovarian, and colon cancer is based on the sequencing of various genes to find genetic variants responsible for an increased risk of cancer. In 10% of patients, the variant cannot be classified and remains of uncertain clinical significance, making diagnosis difficult.
FrOG is the French oncogenetics database. Medical biologists share their expertise to improve diagnosis of genetic predisposition to cancer and access to targeted therapies.

3. Protecting populations: studies of occupational risk factors
Baclesse's epidemiology research team is working on occupational risk factors for cancer.
Several advances in 2023:
- Data from the AGRICAN cohort, combined with cohorts from the USA and Norway, have shown
an excess risk of Hodgkin's lymphoma following exposure to insecticides from the
pyrethroid family. - The PESTEXPO program shows that glyphosate exposure levels among professional gardeners and landscapers are higher than predicted by the pesticide's registration models.
- The PROPOUMON project has demonstrated the feasibility of systematically identifying work-related bronchopulmonary cancers in hospitals, so that they can be identified and recognized as occupational diseases.
4. The Dyn'R® device

In November 2023, the Baclesse Center acquired the "DYN'R®."
This equipment is used to treat mobile tumors (located in the chest or abdomen) using proton therapy.
The Dyn'R® system is a respiratory control device. During the radiotherapy session, the patient holds their breath for a few seconds. This allows the treatment to be applied as close as possible to the tumor margins, reducing unnecessary doses to the patient.
The equipment, which cost
€55,000 to purchase and maintain, was financed entirely by donations.
5. Photobiomodulation to reduce and prevent certain treatment side-effects
Since July 2023, photobiomodulation has been offered at the Centre Baclesse to patients undergoing radiotherapy or radio-chemotherapy for ENT cancer, as a preventive or curative treatment depending on the intensity of reactions to the treatment.
This treatment technique uses infrared light toattenuate certain side effects of cancer treatments. Non-invasive, painless and heatless, it has 3 major effects: analgesic, anti-inflammatory and healing. The reduction in these side effects is associated with better tolerance of irradiation, a reduction in drug prescription, and an overall improvement in quality of life.
The equipment, costing a total of €10,000, was 100% financed by donations.

6. Beautifying spaces
Donations from an association have enabledthe waiting rooms to be converted into a day hospital for oncology patients, with comfortable, modern chairs and armchairs. It has also funded murals by graffiti artist SoLiCe in the "Teenagers and Young Adults" rooms.
THANK YOU!
